Tornadoes confirmed in North Carolina

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A tornado is believed to have touched down in Cumberland County on Friday evening, forcing troopers to close Interstate 95 for more than an hour.

A tractor trailor flipped over, forcing a backup along the busy interstate near the Hope Mills area.

The storm also damaged more than a dozen structures and knocked down several trees in Cumberland County.

In Robeson County, the National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornados touched down just after 5 p.m. on Friday.

The first tornado touched down 6 miles east of Lumberton at Beulah Church Road and Old Whiteville Road.

There was heavier damage 20 minutes north in East Parkton, North Carolina where another tornado touched down on East Everett Road near the intersection of Highways 71 and 31.

No tornadoes are expected to affect the Wilmington area on Friday evening, however there still is a possiblility of severe weather on Saturday.
