WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - During a budget workshop, school board members voiced opposition to the idea of changing bus schedules and altering school start times.

One option would have had high schools beginning at 7:00 in the morning, middle schools starting at 8:00, elementary schools at 9:15.

School board member Elizabeth Redenbaugh said the proposed idea was a mistake from the beginning.

"In my opinion, if they cannot be alert, then they cannot learn," said Redenbaugh.

By not changing the bus schedule, several drivers will not have to lose their jobs, but the school system will have to find ways to save somewhere else.
