WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Several Wilmington women who were displaced after an early morning fire destroyed their house, now have a permanent place to call home.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, a fire broke out just before 4:00 AM March 17, at the New Beginnings Recovery Home for women on Carolina Beach Road near South Carolina Avenue.

Two officers noticed smoke coming from the house and managed to get all the women out safely before flames destroyed the resident.

Investigators say an electrical malfunction in the attic sparked the blaze.  According to firefighters the home was built in the 1930s and had a lot of old wiring.

WECT viewer Danny Nalge and the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross gave the women a temporary place to stay while they looked for a permanent home.

Now the recovery house will be located on Eastwood Road and the women will move into their new home over the weekend.
