Gary Bartz headlines UNCW's JazzFest

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW is gearing up for the university's 27th Annual Guest Artist Jazz Festival.

The festival will feature Oberlin College professor Gary Bartz, who is said to be one of the finest alto players of his generation.

Bartz has performed and recorded with several jazz musicians including: Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, McCoy Tyner, Art Blakely, and Max Roach.

The musician will perform with the UNCW jazz ensemble Friday night during the world premiere of The Suspension of Disbelief, commissioned for UNCW Big Band and composed by Dave Rivello.

Saturday, Bartz headlines the final night of the Jazz Festival, performing with UNCW jazz faculty and Steve Berrios, one of the top Latin Jazz drummers.
