NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Members of the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization Citizen Advisory Committee are making plans to improve transportation in the area.

The committee is responsible for managing the Cape Fear Commutes 2035 planning process, which is a federally mandated document that is updated every five years.

The plan will address transportation needs of New Hanover County, northern Brunswick County, and coastal Pender County.  It will also specifically cover Boiling Springs Lakes and Southport.

Cape Fear Commutes 2035 will look at all modes of transportation, including:

  • cars
  • trucks
  • buses
  • trains
  • planes
  • ferries
  • bikes
  • walking

To develop the best plan for the community, the committee will rely on public outreach campaigns by conducting a survey and holding open houses throughout the community.

The plan will weigh impact of specific transportation projects based on public values, like cost, travel time, comfort, safety, etc.
