KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - The Town of Kure Beach has teamed up with NC State and the Department of Transportation to install a dune infiltration system.

NC State students helped design the system to filter and block pollutants that are in the storm water before it washes into the ocean.

Kure Beach Mayor, Mac Montgomery, said this third system exceeds both state and federal standards as far as clean water.

"The end result is what swayed everybody to support this and being able to make the waters along Coastal North Carolina cleaner for all of us," said Montgomery.

Construction began on the project that costs more than $30,000 at the end of January, and should be running by the end of February.
