WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Wilmington City Council members approved an ordinance Tuesday night to begin charging fees for cyber-sweepstakes machines.
Businesses that operate 24 hours a day will be charged $3,000 per machine, while businesses that are closed at night will be charged $2,000 per machine.
The fees will be charged for new and existing businesses when they renew their annual business licenses with the city.
The current 90-moratorium on new sweepstakes machines is still in place until June, when council will consider other issues related with the machines like hours of operation and location.
