WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A local businessman and two others were cleared of all felony charges related to a motorcycle business Thursday.
Scott Britt, the owner of Britt's Motorsports, had faced six counts of solicitation of a felony and two counts of fraudulent title application. The Department of Motor Vehicles in North Carolina claimed Britt and two other men, Robert Connelly and Donald Hill Jr., altered the manufacturer's serial numbers on salvaged motorcycles.
Britt owns Britt's Motorsports in Wilmington, Jacksonville and Morehead City.
The felony charges were dismissed and converted into misdemeanor charges. Britt's attorney, J. Harold Seagle, says Britt pleaded guilty to those misdemeanors and paid a $500 fine.
Britt's attorney says this resulted from a breakdown in communication between Britt, his workers and the DMV. The charges pertained to the method in which custom-built machines were registered and how the DMV was notified of the process. Britt said he'll keep in better contact with the DMV in future operations.
