WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A WWII Veteran from Wilmington will be one of three to be honored by France.
The Consul General of France, Pascal Le Deunff, will bestow the Legion of Honor upon three North Carolina Veterans in a ceremony Dec. 1, as a way to express the country's gratitude to those who liberated it from oppression.
The National Order of the Legion Honor is the highest honor in France, recognizing distinguished services to the French Republic.
Veterans Woodrow D. Casey, from Grifton, Robert W. Pyle, from Wilmington, and Earl W. Norwood, from Morehead City, will receive this award in recognition for their courage.
Among their many heroic deeds, they participated in the Normandy landings, which were decisive in the liberation of France.
The ceremony will be held on December 1, at 12:30 p.m., at the House of Representatives of the former State Capitol, 1 E. Edenton Street Raleigh, NC 27601.
