WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A jury in New Hanover County found Rono Dunn guilty Wednesday of murdering Dywaune Simpson in Wilmington two years ago.
Dunn was accused of the death of Simpson at the Nesbitt Court apartments in 2007. Simpson was 21 years old when he died.
"I knew it was going to happen," Laverne Simpson, the victim's mother, said.
Dunn was also found guilty on an armed robbery charge.
"This day is about Shawn. You know and he can rest now, we can be at peace. I know two families are hurting. It's not about picking. It's about Shawn," Simpson said.
"Quite frankly there was doubts. It was only through the courage of witnesses who came forward and broke that wall of silence," Assistant District Attorney Jon David said.
Dunn was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
