Sgt. Kimberly Munley says she 'is recovering well'

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Sgt. Kimberly Munley, a civilian officer, and Senior Sgt. Mark Todd are being hailed as two heroes who prevented a larger loss of life on the Ft. Hood Army base last week.

According to Lt. Gen. Bob Cone, Sgt. Munley and her partner responded within three minutes of reported gunfire. Munley reportedly shot the gunman four times despite being shot herself.

Earlier this week the Carolina Beach native and her partner appeared on Oprah and the Today Show to talk about what happened at the Army base.

Sgt. Munley was expected to speak to the media Friday afternoon, but her doctors advised against it, saying she needed to focus on her recovery. Instead, she sent the following email to WECT's Jon Evans to let everyone know she is recovering well.

Hello Jon

My father said that you and many friends in the community of Wilmington, Carolina Beach, and Wrightsville Beach were concerned about my condition. I am recovering well. Each and every day, my physical condition is improving. I am facing some surgeries in the near future but it looks as if they may not begin until the new year. I have received a tremendous amount of support and I am extremely grateful for all of the concern that has been expressed. Please tell everyone I said "hello" and I hope to see everyone real soon. Best wishes.
