BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - An escapee from the jail in Brunswick County is back in custody.
He had been in jail since September 17, on a failure to appear warrant.
The breach raises questions regarding the jail's inmate identification and release procedures.
According to Sheriff John Ingram, detention officer Jamie Jenrette failed to properly check Aguilar's identification and released him.
"What we found so far, basically we feel very secure in our procedures and policies as far as booking and releasing inmates," said Ingram. "However, when you have the human factor involved, from time to time there will be mistakes made."
Jenrette has been fired for not properly checking the inmate's identification.
Investigators say Aguilar was picked up earlier this week in Baltimore, Maryland after being stopped for traffic violations. No word when he will be returned to Brunswick County.
