BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Brunswick County authorities have arrested and charged a Kindergarten teacher in connection to an ongoing drug investigation.
27-year-old Candice Smith made her first appearance in court Tuesday, charged with possession of Fentanyl with intent to sell and deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the sergeant working the case, Fentanyl is a controlled substance more potent than morphine.
Smith was hired in 2005 as a kindergarten teacher at Virginia Williamson Elementary School, but is reportedly suspended at this time.
While investigating Smith, sheriff's deputies were led to 52-year-old Brian Lee Knight of Supply, where they found various drugs including: marijuana, valium, and Fentanyl. Investigators also seized drug paraphernalia and a handgun.
Knight faces over 20 drug related charges as a result of the search, and authorities say more charges are forthcoming.
