WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County courtroom 317 was silent as accused killer Gerard Edward Altman was escorted into the room by a sheriff's deputy and his attorney Friday morning.
Altman is facing charges of two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of his mother, Laura Gallagher, and her husband, James.
Deputies found the couple inside their Ogden home the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Authorities are waiting for autopsy results from Chapel Hill and say the couple appears to have died from blunt force trauma.
Altman was arrested Thursday, after a resident of The Reserves at Forest Hills called police and told them she came home from school and found Altman sleeping on her couch.
Judge Jeffrey Noecker agreed with District Attorney Ben David when he asked Altman be held without bond.
Altman's next court date is scheduled for Feb. 26, for a probable cause hearing.
