WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Governor Bev Purdue's budget does not include any cuts to Cape Fear Community College's top notch Marine Tech Program.
In February, officials at CFCC said lawmakers were looking to cut more than $500,000 from the program, which would have brought a halt to all hands on learning.
CFCC student Audra Burchfield, who is enrolled in the Marine Tech Program, said the kind of classroom work they were looking to cut is what makes the program so effective.
"We tie knots, prepare nets, do dredging. We actually do stuff that will help us get jobs," said Burchfield.
A spokesperson with CFCC said the program is not entirely safe because the budget has to go through the House and Senate.
