Three Killed in Fiery Robeson County Accident

ROBESON COUNTY -- Three people are dead and a fourth person is in the hospital after a fiery wreck in Robeson County on Sunday night.

The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday about a half mile from the town of Lumber bridge on NC 20.

A driver heading east was speeding around a curve, crossed the center line and hit a car head-on. The eastbound car burst into flames. The male driver died in the fire.

Officials won't have a positive ID until Tuesday afternoon. His body has been sent to the medical examiner to check dental records.

The two women in the westbound car, 44-year-old Sheila Gaddy of St. Paul's and 42-year-old Melevon Burden of Red Springs died. The backseat passenger, 42-year-old Derrick Reagan is in critical condition at UNC Chapel Hill.

A second car driving westbound skidded and hit the first car. Driver Karen Oliphant of Raeford and her 12-year-old son were treated and released.
