FEBRUARY 7, 2005 -- Police Captain Ty Rivera has now resigned from the Leland Police Department.

Rivera was pulled over Saturday night in Navassa Community for suspicion of drunken driving. Police reports indicate he refused a breathalyzer test.

The captain faces several charges, including DWI, domestic violence for communicating threats against his wife and a host of motor vehicle violations including driving a vehicle with expired tags, registration and inspection and having an open container of alcohol.

Monday morning, Rivera had his first court appearance. A judge set his bond for the domestic violence charge at $5000.

Detectives in the Leland Police Department referred calls to Chief Osey Sanders. Chief Sanders could not be reached by phone, and he drove off before we were able to talk to him.
