Big Switch Minute: Trekker

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The transition to digital broadcasting has brought all sorts of unusual sights to our area.

Now, it is brining a massive traveling TV on wheels into Southeastern North Carolina.

The big TV is the DTV Trekker, an education effort by the National Association of Broadcasters.  At every stop on its 95,000 mile journey, TV viewers can learn what they need to know to be ready for the big switch.

The date on the truck is when the rest of the country makes the switch.  Wilmington is going early on September 8, and that is why the Trekker is headed our way for a series of appearances.

The Trekker will stop:

  • Wednesday morning at the Senior Center in Wilmington
  • Friday at midday at the Cooperative Extension Building in Elizabethtown
  • Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Burgaw Train Station
  • Sunday from 11 AM to 2 PM at West Brunswick High School in Shallotte
  • Monday at the Vineland Depot in Whiteville

Even if your TV's are ready for the digital age, seeing the trekker is worth the trip.  After all, it's about the most unusual thing on four wheels, other than the Oscar Meyer Weiner.
