NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- Thursday, dozens of people gathered to remember those who have died for our country.
Local groups came together in honor of National Maritime Day.
A fire boat, the State Port Police, and several Coast Guard vessels were on display, as about a dozen local Merchant Marines looked on.
More than 9,000 Merchant Marines lost their lives fighting in WWII.
The ceremony took place along the Waterfront in Downtown Wilmington.
