Accusations of Patient Abuse at Local Nursing Home

JULY 24, 2006 -- There is a warrant out for the arrest of a Wilmington nursing home worker accused of abusing an elderly woman with Alzheimer's disease.

The woman worked at the Oakdale Heights Senior Living Center on 17th Street.

In mid-June, co-workers told administrators they saw her hit a 90-year-old woman over the head three times.

The certified nursing assistant was fired. Detectives say they plan to charge her with patient abuse and neglect.

Authorities say the elderly woman is doing fine.

The manager of the facility was not available for comment, but the corporate office issued this statement: "It is our top priority to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents. It is our policy to fully investigate all incidents and accidents at our senior living community."
