Forecast Discussion

Updated:

*Wind Advisory is in effect for Southeastern North Carolina 8am to 8pm Wednesday.
*A flood warning is in effect for some areas in Southeastern North Carolina, many rivers or at or above flood stage at this time.

Overview
Light shower will clear tonight giving way to heavy winds tomorrow.  Strong northwest and west winds will move in.  Wednesday and to some degree Thursday will be very blustery and chilly with temperatures running well below normal.  Temperatures should moderate some by Valentine's Day on Sunday.

Today Lo: 37
Scattered light showers are expected through most of night.  Winds are from the southeast as the cold front approaches from the west.  Lows overnight will be in the 30's but it will feel much colder with strong west winds behind the front especially towards daybreak.

Wednesday Hi: 45 Lo: 26
Most of the day will be characterized by very strong winds and cold conditions. Highs will be held down to the mid 40s by strong northwest and west winds. There will be plenty of sunshine, especially in the latter half of the day.  A few clouds could linger early in the day. Winds will be sustained up to 30 mph with gusts over 40 mph.  Wind chills could be in the teens in the morning and only rise to the low 30's by afternoon.  Definitely bundle up out there.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday will be breezy but not as windy as Wednesday.  Both days will be sunny to mostly sunny with highs in the upper 40's.  Cold overnight lows in the 20's will continue.  It appears a low will pass well to our south Friday with little to no precipitation expected.  This low will however pull another shot of Arctic air into the area for the start of the weekend.

The weekend and Monday
Another shot of Arctic air moves in for Saturday.  Highs will fall into the mid 40's with mostly sunny skies.  Lows Saturday night should fall into the low and mid 20's.  The Arctic air will retreat to the north on Sunday allowing highs to moderate back into the low and mid 50's.  Look for a partly sunny day.  On Monday a weak system could bring us a few showers.  Highs should top out in the low 50's.

Stay warm out there,

Robb Ellis
