JUNE 27, 2006 -- Residents at the Houston Moore Housing Project have been having problems getting their mail.
The outside boxes are falling apart, leaving mail exposed to anyone.
The US Postal Service recently stopped making deliveries there until the housing authority makes major improvements.
Residents living there say the doors to the mailboxes don't close or lock. They say anyone can walk up and go through private mail.
We went to ask Manager Shelia Pridgen, and even as we waited, we saw staff refuse to give Phyllis Gibson her mail, saying they didn't have authority.
Richard James is Assistant Director of the Wilmington Housing Authority. He feels this is a serious problem and says they are taking steps to address the matter.
James says he ordered new mailboxes, and they'll be installed in late July. Until then, residents will have to be patient.
