Heather has been working at WECT since May of 2004. She started her career in news back in 1999, when she graduated from Winthrop University and began an internship at WSOC in Charlotte. From there she was promoted to associate producer, then overnight producer, and weekend producer.
During her time at WSOC, Heather won a MidSouth Regional Emmy for her 6:00 weekend newscast on the Columbia shuttle crash on February 1, 2003.
After almost 4 ½ years in Charlotte, Heather wanted a change of pace and decided to move to the beautiful, charming city of Wilmington. She was welcomed into the WECT family as a producer, then quickly promoted to executive producer. In 2009, she was asked to be part of a Raycom Leadership Team to enhance managerial skills.
In addition to being executive producer, Heather is the theater/arts reporter. She has enjoyed bringing more attention to the area's vast cultural arts through her First Act segment. She was honored to receive an Outstanding Service to the Theater Community award from Thalian Association and be nominated for a YWCA Women of Achievement Award.
Heather also enjoys performing in local community theater and has been seen on stage in dozens of productions, such as Gypsy, The Music Man, Little Shop of Horrors, Man of La Mancha, Xanadu and Always.. Patsy Cline. She was nominated for a StarNews Wilmington Theater Award for her role as Sheila in A Chorus Line.
Heather was born in Syracuse, NY but was raised a Southern girl in Newberry, SC. She found her home and her true love in Wilmington. She married her best friend and co-actor Jason Aycock in 2012.
