NOVEMBER 27, 2005 -- Gas prices may be going down, but the money you're saving may evaporate once again.
The United States Chamber of Commerce is looking for funding to maintain the nation's highways. Chamber leaders are pushing the federal government to tax drivers for every mile they drive. They are also suggesting drivers who own hybrids and other fuel-efficient cars pay a tax as well.
Barbara Vought owns a hybrid and isn't happy about the proposed tax.
"We paid extra money for this car, so we could help the economy and be fuel efficient, and do all that kind of stuff. Now we are being penalized for that," said Vought.
At this point, it's uncertain when or if the federal government will approve the taxes on fuel-efficient cars or the taxes on the miles drivers put on their vehicles.
