AUGUST 25, 2005 -- Almost all the dachshunds seized last month from a Wilmington breeder are now enjoying new homes. Only one dog remains of the 117 that were taken to the animal control shelter.

Hundreds of people lined up outside the shelter earlier this month the first day some of the dogs went up for adoption.

The animals were taken from breeder Larry Smith after he was charged with animal cruelty. Those charges were later dropped and Smith was allowed to keep some of the dogs and continue his breeding program under animal control's supervision.

Now the rest of the dogs are in new homes, except for one who's waiting for a clean bill of health.
