JUNE 24, 2005 -- Five Marines from Camp Lejeune were killed in a suicide car bomb attack in Fallujah.
The U.S. military says three female Marines and two male Marines were killed when their truck was attacked by a suicide car bomber. Ten other Marines were injured in the attack.
A total of 19 people were riding in the truck at the time of the bombing. All were members of a U.S. Military Civil Affairs team headed to perform checkpoint searches of female Iraqi civilians.
It was the single most deadly attack on female U.S. troops since the war began.
