Sarah MatherSarah Mather is just one of the girls in Hollywood, fitting in like she was made to be a star. And, with her role in Fox's hit television show "American Idol," a star is something she could easily become very soon.
"This is my career, this is what I want to pursue, so we'll see where this takes me," Mather says. "This is such a great opportunity and such a good way to get my face out there and my voice. This is what I want."
Mather's soulful voice and polished look have taken her a long way from her home in North Carolina. Mather may have grown up in Charlotte, but she's really made a name for herself in Wilmington in the music scene.
She's lived in Wilmington for the past four years, singing in the bands Moe Black, Crushed Velvet and, most recently, Swing Shift.
"They're so supportive. They're great. They've been behind me 100-percent," Mather said.
Mather and the other 23 contestants haven't had much down time since they've been in L.A. preparing to perform live for the first time. They're working with a voice coach and resting as much as possible.
"For me, I do a lot of mental things, a lot of writing in my journal," says Mather. "It helps me to maintain my sanity."
When it comes time for Mather to do what she does best, she'll be singing her heart out for all her fans in Wilmington and across America.
"I'm here to represent you well, and I'm definitely gonna give it my all and do the best I can," she says.
If you'd like to watch Mather sing, come out to Hollywood East Cinema Grill Tuesday night for a Sarah Watch Party hosted by WECT News 6 and Fox 26. The show starts at 8:00 pm, but get there early. Doors open at 7:00 pm. Of course, don't forget to vote after the show.
