HOME REPORT WEATHER SIGN UP RESOURCES
We want YOU to join the First Alert Weather Team!

We're looking for volunteers from the community that have a love for weather, storms, news or just want to become a part of our broadcasts.

It's called our First Alert Weather Network, and it's a way for YOU to be a part of the broadcast. You'll also provide valuable, potentially life-saving service and information in times of severe weather.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the First Alert Weather Network?

A network of weather observers, storm spotters, community reporters and backyard weather enthusiasts that provide weather observations, images and video of conditions in southeastern North Carolina.

Who can be a part of the First Alert Weather Network?

Anyone can sign up to be a Weather Network Reporter. Those with home weather stations, thermometers or rain gauges are especially encouraged to join. Schools, teachers, state parks, churches, and local governments can also get involved. It's a great way to showcase the weather in YOUR community.

What do I report as a Weather Network Reporter?

There will be a variety of ways for you to report weather in your neighborhood. From providing daily rainfall to taking photos of the weather in your backyard, YOU become a part of the First Alert Weather Team.

ANY day you can :
-Send your highs, lows, rainfall or snowfall
-Send photos of the day's weather in your community
-Send a video of the weather or even provide your own video report of the day!

During severe weather :
-Provide info and conditions in your neighborhood.
-Send pictures or video of what the weather is like where you were.
-Updates on damage and conditions
-Interested individuals could also become contacts for our newsroom in the event of severe weather or big events. We may use your information via phone interviews or Skype. But don't worry if you are camera-shy, it's all optional.

How do I become a Weather Network Reporter?

Our program is in its infancy, and we're looking for more volunteers to get the program off the ground.

The process is simple. To become a volunteer, fill out our registration form.

The Registration will walk you through the process. The first step creates an account for our WECT web site (Member Center in the upper left corner). You only have to provide the information with asterisks. The second step allows you to provide information such as your county and any spotter training or social media you use.

Will my reports be used on air?

Some but not all reports will be used in a variety of ways on the air. Those willing reporters can also provide live reports or streams by phone or via Skype/cell phone.

Do I have to report every day?

Nope, the process is completely voluntary. Report as often or as little as you'd like. Some folks will want to report often. Some may only report in the event of severe weather.

Do I need any equipment?

You don't need a single piece of equipment. But if you have a home weather station, or other weather equipment, that's great! Other great optional items that will assist in your reporting :
-Smart phone/Tablet
-Digital camera/camcorder
-Computer/laptop with video

We've made it very easy for you by providing a list of Resources and Information.

Do I get paid for this?

Unfortunately no. But the reward is that you get to provide valuable information to the community, as well as have the opportunity to be on-air if you desire.

If there are any other questions that are not answered here, please feel free to email your question to the First Alert Weather Team.
