BOLTON, NC (WECT) – A man from Bolton was shot and killed over Easter weekend at a nightclub in the area, according to police.
They say Odell Hampton was at The Hideaway when he and his cousin Jerry Moore Junior started arguing. Authorities say the night ended when Moore shot Hampton several times, killing him.
Irise Hampton, Odell's mother, said he and Moore graduated high school together and were always on the same sports teams. She's not sure why some people are saying they had bad blood. In fact, the last time she saw both men was when she dropped Odell off at The Hideaway Saturday night.
Irise said a few hours later she received a call from one of her daughters that Odell had been shot.
The Hideaway is a club in Bolton off Lizzie's Drive. According to Chief Darryl Decotis, officers have been called to the club 37 times over the past two years, so he's trying to shut it down.
He said most of those calls were related to shootings or stabbings. He plans to meet with the District Attorney's Office to discuss closing the business.
This is believed to be the first murder in Bolton in nearly a decade.
