RIEGELWOOD, NC (WECT) – A 17-year-old young man was killed Sunday in a traffic accident at the intersection of Old 87 and Fertilizer Plant Road in Riegelwood.

Seth Beaver was a passenger of the car involved in a head-on collision with a pickup truck.  A road memorial now marks the place where Beaver lost his life.

Members of Bethel Baptist Church, where Seth's father is the pastor, spent time consoling each other at the crash site.  The church is only hundreds of feet away from where the accident happened, and now they've started a petition in an effort to make the road safer.

People say the intersection is confusing to understand.  If you are driving on Fertilizer Plant Road, you can turn right onto Old Highway 87 or continue on Fertilizer Plant Road.  If you are driving on Old Highway 87 there is no warning sign to let you know something is coming in the opposite direction.

Church members say they will continue to pray for Seth and his family, in addition for safety at the intersection down the road from where they worship.

Seth's funeral is Wednesday at Riegelwood Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m.
