Charles WarrenBRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Commissioners in Brunswick County are moving forward with plans to censure Commissioner Charles Warren.
Warren refused to step down as head of the Department of Social Services and that violates the county's code of ethics.
Commissioners voted to pass a code of conduct to prevent any conflict of interest situations involving commissioners who serve on multiple boards in the county.
Most commissioners stepped down from their outside posts in December, but Warren refused to step down from the DSS Board.
Last month Chairman Bill Sue wrote Warren a formal letter warning him of a possible censure.
Since Warren refused to give up his seat once again Monday night, commissioners voted 4 to 1 to begin an investigation.
According to Sue, no commissioners have been censured during the 20 years he has served on the board. A censure is a formal reprimand, but it does not prevent Warren from continuing to vote on the board.
