Labor Day Booze it & Lose it campaign kicks off

RALEIGH, NC (WECT) – In 2009, 394 people died as a result of an alcohol-related crash in North Carolina and 8,791 were injured, according to the Governor's Highway Safety Program.

"As we celebrate the end of the summer, I remind motorists to do so responsibly," said David Weinstein, director of the GHSP, in a news release. "Impaired driving is simply not worth the consequences. Remember, it's Booze It & Lose It."

The Labor Day crack down on impaired drivers began Friday, August 20 and will run through Monday, September 6.

There will be more checkpoints and patrols across the state during the campaign.  Last year, officers issued more than 105,370 traffic and criminal citations during the Labor Day "Booze It & Lose It" campaign.

"Booze It & Lose It" is administered by the NC Governor's Highway Safety Program. The initiative began in 1994 and was created to zero in on impaired drivers with innovative and extensive anti driving-while-impaired enforcement and education.
