Gavin Johnson, a native of Waycross, Georgia, joined the WECT-TV news team in August 2008. Gavin comes to Wilmington from Gainesville, Florida where he reported, produced, and filled in as an anchor for two years.
While in Gainesville, Gavin not only reported the facts, but made a difference in the lives of viewers. For example, he covered a story about the people that live in a local mobile home park upset that they might have to move because of rezoning in the city. After his story aired, city leaders changed their minds and the residents were spared a move.
Gavin is a 2006 graduate of Augusta State University. While in college he appeared in plays and in independent movies, but it wasn't until he was hired at WRDW-TV as a Production Assistant that he knew he wanted to do news. Gavin says, "I love the challenge of having to be an instant expert on whatever is going on that particular day. Plus, there's no other job where you get to meet new people everyday and tell their stories."
Gavin's thrilled to be living in Southeastern North Carolina and working at WECT-TV. He can't wait to tell YOUR stories. Feel free to email him at anytime.
