COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Columbus County commissioners made a loud statement Monday in favor of keeping a study about a new international port going.
Last week commissioners said they are continuing to lobby for a new port in Southport. People in Columbus County would benefit from the port because the ships would be near them.
Commissioners believe with the opening of a new business park and other projects the future is bright for the economy in Columbus and Brunswick Counties.
They passed a resolution Monday urging the state to continue the study.
Governors in South Carolina and Georgia have joined forces to study expanding the port in Savannah and making it accessible for bigger ships, which could bring competition to our area.
