WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Cape Fear Hospital have been honored by the American Association of Respiratory Care.
The hospitals earned a Quality Respiratory Care Recognition award, the second year in a row for NHRMC.
Respiratory therapists offer breathing treatments and other services to people with various illnesses from asthma to cystic fibrosis. They also offer care to premature infants.
The QRCR is a recognition that is supposed to help patients identify the facilities they want to use for respiratory care. The hospitals that get such a designation have shown that they adhere to criteria for their services, have credentialed staff and are available 24 hours a day.
There are ninety respiratory therapists between the two hospitals.
