KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Kure Beach may be a beach town, but there's a new dress code at Town Hall to stop employees from dressing like they're at the ocean.
Mayor Dean Lambeth has high expectations for his employees and wants them to dress for success.
"The straw that broke the camel's back was when I came in to Town Hall one day and one of the town staff was wearing sweat pants and a hoody," said Lambeth. "That was enough. You never get but one chance to make a first impression."
Under the new dress code, employees will no longer be allowed to wear:
Lambeth says the female employees are following the guidelines and are dressing more businesslike, but not all of the ladies are happy.
"It makes me mad," said employee Jennifer Watson. "I feel everyday I come in and I represent the town just fine. I don't need a policy to outline what I should and should not wear."
She says the new dress code has had an impact on their wallets, having to buy different attire to wear to work.
At their next board meeting, council members will discuss allowing female employees to wear Bermuda shorts or Capri pants when they go to work.
