GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) - Police have arrested a Gastonia man for trespassing after he carried a cross into another man's back yard.
The Gastonia Police Department say Michael Griffith, 44, was raking leaves at his home at 1201 Fairfield Drive on February 18 when Alton Lee Heafner, 38, walked into the backyard carrying a large, wooden cross.
Heafner started talking to Griffith about religion. Griffith told police he listened to Heafner for a few minutes before asking Heafner to leave.
Heafner asked Griffith if he could tell him one more thing and Griffith said 'yes.' After talking a for a few more minutes, Griffith once again asked Heafner to leave.
Heafner told Griffith he was on the "Lord's property" and Heafner allegedly kicked a bucket at Griffith.
Griffith called 911 and Heafner started walking away.
Heafner was charged with simple assault, trespassing and two counts of resisting arrest.
