NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Public Health Foundation of New Hanover County gave away grants to five organizations, using money raised from a golf charity event from last year.

Grants were given to:

  • Men's Preventive Health Program: $1,900
  • Mobile Dental Unit: $500
  • HIV/STD Outreach: $1,284
  • Animal Control Services: $500
  • Cape Fear HealthNet: $500

Bo Dean, the president of the Public Health Foundation of NHC, said the organization is trying to ask for donations and look for corporate ways to do private/public partnerships in order to use the foundation to fill in some of the gaps the government can't provide.

The foundation will sponsor the charity golf tournament again this year, April 17.  Joe Gallison will be the master of ceremonies.  He is best known for playing Dr. Neil Curtis on "Days of our Lives" for 17 years.

Teams are now being formed and business sponsors are being solicited for the event.
