
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - World War II Veterans from around southeastern North Carolina will head to the Nation's Capital on the inaugural, Honor Flight in April.
The Honor Flight will take veterans to Washington D.C. for free, to visit the World War II Memorial.
Honor Flight volunteers held a fundraising benefit during a Rotary Club meeting in downtown Wilmington, Thursday afternoon.
Bill Meier, a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II, will be headed to Washington on the first flight April 13 and said he's very honored for the opportunity.
"I think it's such a wonderful thing to have a group do this from North Carolina," said Meier.
