WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A theatre company in Wilmington is reviving a show that was tailor-made for former television star Linda Lavin.
Lavin and her husband Steve Bakunas founded the Red Barn Studio Theatre on 3rd and Marstellar Streets.
Their company opened the play The Tale of the Allergist's Wife in early January to sold out crowds.
The show is about a woman named Marjorie who is going through a mid-life crisis. She feels stuck in a rut until a long lost childhood friend enters the picture and makes things exciting again.
Lavin stars in the show as Marjorie's mother, but when The Tale of the Allergist's Wife first opened on Broadway in 2000, Lavin was the lead. The pictures on the right are some of the publicity photos from that production.
Charles Busch wrote the role of Marjorie specifically for her. The original version also starred Tony Roberts and Michele Lee.
Lavin's performance earned a Tony nomination for best actress in a play, and the show was nominated for best play.
If you're interested in seeing the Wilmington production, you should call Red Barn Studio Theatre first at (910) 762-0955 to see if there are tickets available. If not, the company plans to run the play again in August and September after Lavin returns from starring in a show called Collected Stories on Broadway.
