WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Activists against a proposed international container port are urging people to send feedback to the Wilmington District of the US Army Corps of Engineers in regards to the proposed project in Southport.

Southport is among the fastest growing retirement markets in the country. The $2.3 billion port project will be located between a nuclear power plant and a massive ammunition terminal. Many Brunswick County residents say the port does not belong in the area.
The Corps is trying to gather information to determine if there is enough federal interest to proceed into a more detailed study.
