WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNC-Wilmington officials are urging students to take precautions against the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu.

Just a few days into the start of school, campus life is moving along normally, except more students than usual have flu symptoms.

The Centers for Disease Control are no longer suggesting that everyone with symptoms be tested for H1N1. They only suggest going to the doctor if you have an underlying illness that could magnify the virus.

Without testing for H1N1, University officials have no way of knowing for sure whether students have swine flu or another illness, but they're treating all flu cases as H1N1.

Katrin Wesner, the director of the UNCW student health center, is urging students to wash their hands frequently and stay home from classes and extracurricular activities if they have flu symptoms. Wesner said there is no reason to panic, as the H1N1 virus tends to be less severe than the seasonal flu.
