PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Hurricane victims can stay warm this winter thanks to a local church’s clothing giveaway.
Lighthouse Worship Center in Rocky Point wants to help anyone who still may need assistance after Hurricane Florence. Every three months, the church holds a clothing distribution, but they say they are constantly taking calls and working to help those in need.
“The need is so great we’re still were even giving out supplies even as late as last Saturday," said Jeff Daw, senior Pastor at Lighthouse. "We were giving out supplies to people still struggling, still dealing with mold issues or the mold’s come back out because the Clorox don’t kill it. It just puts it down out for a little bit.”
The church works with other worship centers and food banks in Pender County to feed people from all over, several days a week. Daw says even though the hurricane was over four months ago, the county is still very much devastated. That’s why clothing distribution events are so important.
“We’ll have people on hand, if they can help. If you’re hurt from the storm, we’ve been telling everyone, if it’s got you where you don’t have a lot of food or you don’t have a lot of supplies, call us,” said Daw. “Let us know what we can do here at the church and we’ll do what we can do to get you some help.”
The clothing distribution is Saturday, Jan. 19. The church will be giving away clothes for all ages and sizes along with coats, blankets, and pillows. For more details on the event, click here.
Daw says they aren’t currently taking clothing donations, but if there is something else you’d like to give away to someone in need, you can call 910-675-3100 or message them on Facebook.
