WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Cape Fear Roller Girls are looking for new recruits for their upcoming season.

The Cape Fear Roller Girls are Wilmington’s premiere flat track roller derby league and have been recognized members of the worldwide Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) since 2005. The CPRGs are hosting a free informational session on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8:30 p.m. at Scooter’s Skating Center located at 341 Shipyard Blvd in Wilmington. The public is invited to learn more about what they do.

Roller Derby basics and skating fundamentals will be discussed. The Cape Fear Roller Girls are also welcoming non-skating volunteers and referees to the informational session. You can read more about the event here.

Barb Gnarly, the head of recruitment for Cape Fear Roller Girls, discusses what it was like when she joined: “Terrifying to walk in at that time we just had a try out and we’ve learned kind of some things from the past what’s awesome is what people don’t realize until they get to know us is that we are super approachable super welcoming. We really love when people join us and when people have an interest in it. We love to teach it and we love to share our passion with others. So don’t be scared just come visit us!”

The Cape Fear Roller girls are a skater owned and operated nonprofit organization.
