TAKING OFF: Wilmington airport sees 12-percent increase in passengers

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - For the third consecutive year, a record-setting number of passengers few out of Wilmington International Airport.

Airport officials announced Wednesday that it served 934,058 passengers in 2018, a 12-percent increase from 2017’s record-setting total of 836,589. In 2016, the airport served 817,896 passengers.

Officials credited the addition of United as a carrier as well as expanded services by American Airlines for helping with the increase.

“2018 has been a year of unprecedented growth,” said airport director Julie Wilsey. “We acknowledge the investment our airline partners have made at ILM.

“With our terminal expansion underway, and the continued support from our growing community, we look forward to our next milestone of 1 million passengers.”
