COMMUNITY CLASSROOM: Teacher wants to make science, social studies interesting with $1,200 project

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - This week’s WECT Community Classroom features an ambitious project.

Haylea Bass is trying to raise more than $1,200 for her Donors Choose project. The science and social studies teacher at Cape Fear Elementary School in Rocky Point is requesting science tubs and social studies bundles so her students can have hands-on science activities to complete the classroom.

Her original goal was over $1,400 but she still needs $1,255 to have her project fully funded.

Bass says it’s a pricey project but worth the investment.

“It’s hard to find engaging and hands-on resources for them to use so that’s why I’m asking for the funds to purchase these items because they are hands-on and engaging," Bass said. "I believe that the students will find a love and more reasons to be able to like science and social studies and want to be able to learn about them with these materials.”

You can find Bass' project by clicking here. Donors Choose will purchase the items and deliver them once the project is fully funded.
