One of the most important tasks for Bollhorst is to help patients stop smoking, which drastically helps patients improve their health.

He was inspired to help people quit the habit when his favorite uncle, who battled emphysema and lung cancer, died at age 58.

“I didn’t know how to help him but I was determined to help as many people as I could,” Bollhorst said.

He acknowledged how challenging it is for smokers to give up the habit.

“Once you get the mindset to where that cigarette is not your best friend anymore and you want to quit, we can actually help you quit,” he said.

Bollhorst highlighted an upcoming free smoking cessation class he’s helping to lead on January 17. Click here for details.

As part of the honor from the hospital, Bollhorst received a $1,000 bonus and gets a special parking spot for the rest of the year.
