WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - You sang along to all the songs and watched the hit movie, now, you can take it all in on stage.
Mamma Mia! runs from Thursday, Jan. 3 to Saturday, January 19 at Thalian Hall starring Kendra Goehring Garrett and Sydney Smith Martin in the roles of mother and daughter, Donna and Sophie.
“The audience knows it, they sing along with you," Goehring Garrett said. "We want them to. We want them to enjoy it and have a party with us.”
Both actresses said audience participation is encouraged.
“Everybody that’s in it enjoys being in it, which I think makes the audience enjoy it more,” said Smith Martin. “Not only do you know the songs now, but you are watching all these happy, fun, dancers.”
The show was written by British playwright Catherine Johnson and features the songs of ABBA.
“There’s a beautiful story to all this great ABBA music,” said Goehring Garrett. “It’s mother/daughter and the mom too finding her love and the reminiscing of meeting someone from your past. It’s empowering and touching with really fun music that makes you want to stand and sing.”
With so many ABBA classics, it’s hard for Goehring Garrett to pick her favorite from the show.
"For me, I like either ‘Slipping Through my Fingers’ or ‘The Winner Takes it All,’ she said. “'Super Trooper' is fun and ‘Dancing Queen’ is fun. There’s a lot of fun numbers.”
