COMMUNITY CLASSROOM: Teacher needs donations for audiobook library

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - WECT’s Community Classroom features a teacher’s project at Snipes Academy of Art and Design in Wilmington.

Lindsay King would like an audio book library for the students she teaches in pre-K through second grade. She’s also asking for snacks for her students to eat while they are listening to the audio books.

King signed up with Donors Choose, an online charity that helps local teachers get money for projects not included in school budgets.

“I have requested audio books and snacks for my students," King said on the Donors Choose website. "Our school is a title 1 school, with 100% of students receiving free breakfast and lunch.

"Many of them come in tired, hungry, emotional, and unable to focus.

"My students are eager to learn, but often lack basic needs to be fully engaged. Because of this, students are given an opportunity to have a snack throughout the day to keep them energized, focused, and their bellies full!”

King’s project will cost about $500.

Once her project is fully funded, Donors Choose will purchase and deliver the items to Snipes Academy.
