WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County Fire Rescue crews, in conjunction with Cape Fear Community College, will conduct a live fire training exercise on Monday.

"This training is an opportunity for our staff to gain valuable knowledge and practical experience, while operating in a safe environment that closely resembles real fire situations,” said NHCFR Chief Donnie Hall. “Firefighters will be able to observe fire behavior in all stages of fire growth, move and direct fire hose streams to attack a fire, and practice water supply operations. This will also give fire officers the opportunity for fire ground management training and allow them to complete safety officer skills for certification.”

The training exercise will take place at 6724 Carolina Beach Road on Monday, Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Residents and businesses in the immediate area are being notified of the training and the potential for smoke in the area. Officials say message boards have also been put in place on Carolina Beach Road to warn passing traffic.
